Gallery 2010 presents 4’33” by Sam Mitchell Fin.
Sam Mitchell Fin returns to Gallery 2010 for 4’33”, a new collection of the artist’s signature neon and light based sculpture. Mitchell Fin’s work is concerned with the perception, projection and reception of light in all its forms. Natural, ambient, accidental and man-made, she views her sculptures as experiments into the ways in which we can experience light.
4’33” references American experimental composer John Cage’s performance of 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence. The piece is a musing on the idea that sounds alone can constitute music and song, the sounds of the environment that listeners hear during its performance such as the sounds that ricochet through your body during silence and meditation. At this offsite exhibition, Mitchell Fin will navigate the silence or sound of light from within the walls of the iconic heritage listed Paramount House.
Friday 20 March 6 – 8pm
Saturday 21 March 10am – 4pm
Sunday 22 March 11am – 3pm
This exhibition will be held offsite at Paramount House, 80 Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills.
