Gallery 2010 presents Neon Dispersion by Ollie Lucas.
Lucas is inspired by hypercolour in the world around him, within visual advertising and neon city scapes. In Neon Dispersion, Lucas explores the industrial functioning of flags – brightly hued signals that direct the travel of trains, planes and ships; a system of coloured communication known as semaphores.
Lucas harnesses this communicative function to explain new kinds of urban consciousness via constellations of arresting colour and geometric patterns. Neon Dispersion conveys modern life as fast paced and electric, as well as grungy and brazen, with the same instantaneous impact as in advertising.
